It seems likely that Birmingham City will issue a press release this morning confirming that Town's Worthington Cup semi-final second leg will be moved to Tuesday January 23rd. The row between Birmingham City and the police has rumbled on for a few weeks now, but today should see its culmination with all sides meeting to resolve the matter.

East Anglia based Town fans will be able to see highlights on Anglia's Kick Off programme at 11.30 this evening. Sadly Sky are not planning to show either leg live, although we have discovered that the second leg may be live if the Liverpool-Palace tie is pretty much sorted during the first leg.

Middlesbrough are confirming that a fee of £800,000 has been agreed with Town for the purchase of Alun Armstrong. Town are expected to agree personal terms with the striker who may sign as soon as today.

Town’s run of excellent away form came to an end with a 2-1 loss at Newcastle. Town went ahead in the thirteenth minute through Marcus Stewart, but two controversial Alan Shearer goals won the day for the Geordies.

Rather surprisingly it has emerged that new England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has an Ipswich Town connection. Although never a Town manager, unlike two of his England predecessors, Eriksson spent a sizable anount of time watching Town in the seventies. The then manager of IFK Gothenburg travelled to England to try to get some insight into the English game and with Portman Road a temple of one of the finest examples of the English game at the time, as well as being closest to Felixstowe, it was here that he watched his football.

Town have announced that Mike Cooper will start work as the club's first ever Director of Finance from January 1st. Cooper is a local man and a Town fan and had been working as a director at KPMG for 17 years, five spent on in London and twelve in Ipswich. At KPMG he managed companies of varying size, some with turnovers as large as £60 million. One of the companies he was involved with was Ipswich Town.

Town registered their second home League win of the season with a sometimes brilliant and occasionally frustrating performance. First half goals from Richard Naylor and Mark Venus put Town two-up with a deflected Dean Gordon freekick giving fans the usual nailbiting end to the game.

Town manager George Burley has said he is not interested in Colchester's Lomano Tresor Lua Lua. The Blues boss said that although he had put in an offer last season he was no longer interested in signing the Zairean player. Burley added that he was only interested in bringing in players who would fit straight into the team and that Lua Lua was not in that category.
